Changing Weather!

Here in the Northeast, we’ve experienced some drastic changes in our weather this week. For a couple of days it was sunny and warm, up to almost 80 degrees, giving us a taste of what is to come. Yesterday however, the temperatures plunged throughout the day by almost 40 degrees, taking us down into the low 30’s. Not only that, but for a couple of hours it was snowing! Thankfully the snow didn’t stick. But this morning, in spite of the sun shining, the temperatures were once again below freezing. I guess, that’s the month of March for you!

I think we would all agree, the weather is not the only thing within our lives that can quickly change.  One day life feels warm and sunny, everything seems to be going so well; the next day the clouds roll in and a chill takes over our bodies and souls. We move through various seasons within our lives that bring about all kinds of change—some that may be expected, some that catches us off guard. And as life changes, we reach for those things that do not. We long for points of stability and security, for those things that will remain. This is where our faith steps in.

The Bible reveals to us a God is who never changes: “God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change….” (Psalm 55:19 – NIV) We are told, his Word never changes: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” (Isaiah 40:8) Finally, Jesus himself, “…is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

It’s no wonder God is referred to as a “Rock” and Fortress.” He is One whom we can trust, rely upon, build our lives upon, and rest in as we pass through this ever-changing life—and ever-changing world. No matter how many changes we may experience, he will always be the same—holy, good, just, merciful, faithful, etc. Thus, he is worthy of our faith.

You may be facing some great changes in your life today. The clouds may have rolled in and a chill has begun to take over, and you’re not quite sure how you are going to handle it all. If that’s you, let me encourage you to look to the One who is the same from “everlasting to everlasting.”  Allow your faith to be extended to the One who has promised to always be with you and never to leave you.

Have a great day!
