A Very Fancy (and Expensive!) Restaurant
A couple of weeks ago, Kim and I were treated to the fanciest and most expensive restaurant we have ever been to. Some friends of ours gave us a gift card to a Michelin star restaurant right on Central Park south. At first, Kim and I wondered how in the world we could spend the amount of money on the gift card for one meal. Once we saw the menu we understood how!
That night we had a caprese salad that was made with burrata cheese and chunks of lobster. The garlic bread was topped with burrata and caviar. One pasta included shrimp and the other grilled octopus. Kim’s scallops and my halibut were cooked to perfection and served in a way that was far beyond what we had ever experienced. And I can’t even begin to describe the tiramisu. Best of all, one of the chefs was a young man who was part of the church we had pastored a few years ago in Queens. Chef Dan kept on sending out extras to our table such that, we ended up with close to twice as much food as we had actually ordered. That meal was for sure not just another meal, but a true dining experience. We are quite grateful to our friends who made it possible, and to Chef Dan for the “gifts of food” he sent our way. After all, Kim and I would have never gone to such a high-end restaurant on our own. (I’m pretty amazed at how many people do!)
All of that being said, can you imagine what the dining experience will be like when we sit down to dine at what the Bible calls, “The Wedding Supper of the Lamb?” What a dining experience that will be!
The book of Revelation, likens the coming together of Jesus Christ with all the believers throughout all of history to a wedding day. And at that time a great celebration will take place—there will be an incredible wedding dinner. The Apostle John wrote, “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready…Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” (Revelation 19:7,9 – NIV)
Can you imagine what that day will be like? Surely, that will be the most incredible meal ever—and not just because of the food. Rather, it will be so incredible because of whom we get to dine with. That day, we will sit at the table with the One for whom our hearts and souls have longed—the One who has been the object of our faith; the One who is our Great Reward. Yes, we will dine at the table with our Lord Jesus Christ! And his presence will make that meal much more special than any Michelin stars might.
I trust that you are looking and longing for that day. More than that, I pray that each of us are living our lives in preparation for that day, that we would not just be invited to that meal, but welcomed to it!
Have a great day!
